Trip Overview

The Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara Trek is one of Nepal's best short and scenic journeys that takes you to two of the significant Gurung villages in the lap of the Annapurna and Lamjung Himalayas. The 10 days for the Ghalegaon Ghandapokhara Trekking Itinerary is an ideal Himalayan gateway for individuals with limited time trekking in the Himalayas of Nepal for the very first time, and who are really not fond of high altitude and the challenges that come with it.

The Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara Trek Itinerary officially begins on the 3rd with a drive to Khundi, and on the same day, you arrive at Ghale Gaon, where Ghale Gurung resides, with most of their young lads still serving in the British Army. The journey progresses through lush forests, terraced farms, and peaceful villages; i.e., the Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhara short Himalayan trip of 10 days offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural richness.

In comparison to other Annapurna treks in Nepal such as the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, the Annapurna Circuit Trek, and the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara hiking route is less trodden and sees fewer trekkers even during the times of the year that are considered peak seasons of high Himalayan trekking and climbing in Nepal, including the popular Everest Base Camp Trek, the Everest Three Passes Trek, and the Langtang Trek.

Bookings are now open for the years 2026 and 2027. Contact us now and reserve your spot. The Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara Trek Cost from Adventure Himalayan Travels and Treks includes all the services of a guided package. Meals, lodges, permits, transportation, and guides (their salaries, insurance, and other day-to-day needs during trekking days) make the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara Trekking Cost reasonable.

What to expect from the 10 days Trek to Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhara?

Reaching the maximum elevation only at 2,095 m above sea level at Ghanapokhara, significantly lower than even the best short- and mid-altitude Himalayan treks in Nepal, the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara Trek of 10 days is more about authentic culture and natural beauty than conquering the high altitudes and challenges that come with it. But don’t you worry, you would not be missing out on the stunning mountain views.

The sky horizon dominated by the majestic mountain giants such as Buddha Himal, Himalchuli, and Manaslu to the northeast are among some of the salient features of the 10 days trekking journey to Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhara. Inside the larger Annapurna Conservation Area along the Khudi and Midim Rivers, often through the beautiful forests of rhododendrons and past several cascading waterfalls, it offers you a meaningful and pleasing Himalayan escape.

Where do the Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhari Hiking of 10 days start and end?

Both Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhari are located in the bosom of Lamjung district, which is about 20.5 km northwest of Nepal’s capital city, Kathmandu, and about 12.5 km northwest of one of the major city areas of the country, Pokhara. While the official walking is from Khundi, the journey starts and ends in Kathmandu. Before you begin, as per the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara Trekking Itinerary of 10 days, there is a preparation day in Kathmandu.

Kathmandualone is home to 7 of the world's UNESCO Heritage Sites that you may visit, including Pashupatinath Temple (one of the holiest Hindu temples in the world), Boudhnath (the largest dome structure in South Asia), and the Swyambhunath Temple (the Monkey Temple). Likewise, almost at the end, before you drive directly to Kathmandu, at first you drive to Pokhara, which is famous as Nepal’s capital of adventure, also called the serene valley of lakes.

How is the Ghalegoan Ghanapokhara Trekking Trail?

The trek to Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara is relatively easy with moderate walking hours and altitude. It is a less crowded walk through the lush forests that come with rhododendron blooms in spring. The rivers, cascading waterfalls, and terraced farmlands in between offer a naturalist keen on a calm and immersive experience with photography opportunities; the Ghalegoan Ghanapokhara Hike stands second to none.

For a family of trekkers, beginners, and those looking forward to a short Himalayan adventure without high-altitude challenges after adventurous mountain expeditions, trekking, and climbing, including for the years 2026 and 2027, it is worth adding to your bucket list. Fresh air, green woods, and unspoiled culture beyond the touch of fast-paced city life and population—the change in how you view life is inevitable, the next level of refreshment.

Which mountains are visible during the Ghalegaon-Ghanapokhara Trek?

Though short, unlike on day tours and treks such as the Nagarkot Day Tour, Shivpuri Trek, and the Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour, the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara Trekking Tour of 10 days offers you close-up views of numerous snow-capped mountain peaks. Buddha Himal (6,974m), Himalchuli (6,747m), and Manaslu (8,163m/the 8th tallest mountain range on the earth) on a clear weather day, these also provide you with a deep sense of achievement as well.

Further added by Lamjung Himal (6,983 m), Annapurna II to the north, and Machhapuchhre and other Annapurna mountains to the northwest, including Annapurna I (8,091 m/the 10th tallest mountain peak in the world), all rising above green hills and terraced fields, are more stunning during sunrise and sunset, especially from high-altitude ridges without extreme altitude and trekking. Enjoy one of the rarest combinations now!

Why would you love the villages of Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhara?

Situated at an elevation of Ghalegaon at 2,095 m above sea level and Ghanapokhara at 1,780 m, both of these are famous Gurung settlements that are known all over the world for their bravery, as shown in the Gorkha Regiment. Living in tiny yet beautiful stone houses, their families are ever smiling and welcoming, happy to have you there and provide you with insight into their unique culture, also preserved through cultural dances like Ghatu and Maruni.

In the peaceful, natural setting amid the green hills, terraced farms, and forests, the genuine hospitality of locals warms your heart and offers a soothing experience. Watch the first and last sunrays over the sky-towering peaks while sipping warm tea and trying some local delicacies, and if your time of visit coincides with festivals like Lhosar, you also have an opportunity to be part of the vibrant celebration; the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara Trek is immensely rewarding.

The rich diversity of the Annapurna Conservation Area

The trekking trail to Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara also comes under the larger Annapurna Conservation Area, which is also home to the 10th highest mountain range in the world, Mount Annapurna (8,091 m), and if preferred, it is possible to extend the Himalayan trip to the restricted Manaslu Conservation Area and its trekking routes, like the Manaslu Circuit Trek, the Nar Phu Valley Trek, and the Tsum Valley Trek.

Covering an area of 7,629 square kilometers, it boasts a diverse landscape from lush subtropical forests to alpine meadows and barren lands with almost zero vegetation in the trans-Himalayan rain shadow area. A diverse ecosystem also provides a suitable natural habitat to a wide range of flora and fauna, including the rare Himalayan musk and red panda, that you may come across on a lucky trek day to Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhara.

Useful Info

Which is the best time to go for the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara Trek in Nepal?

As the trek to Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhara is one of the short mid-altitude Himalayan journeys in Nepal, it is equally rewarding throughout the years. Each season comes with its unique charm, such as blooming landscapes in spring, crystal clear skies in autumn, green forests as the frequent rain keeps on washing the dirt and dust in summer, and mountains in their most prime form due to heavy snow dumps in the Upper Himalayas in sight in winter.

The Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara hike is equally rewarding throughout the years. However, if you are someone more aligned to the most stable weather conditions—neither rainy nor snowy; clear skies; teahouses; and mild walking temperatures—spring and autumn from March to May and September to November remain unrivaled. You have access to the fully operational and safest teahouses; both the trekking routes and trails remain dry, the safest condition for journeying.

Food, accommodation, and other amenities on the Ghalegaon-Ghanapokhara hiking route

The meal and lodge options on the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara Trekking Trail can be set as per your preferences and budgets. In general, teahouses offer simply furnished rooms with twin beds and bedding, including a mattress, blanket, and pillow. The common dishes are also typically made up of a mix of Nepalese and Tibetan dishes, sometimes Western cuisines like pizzas, sandwiches, and burgers, but often with a local touch.

In such remote Himalayan settings away from the main city areas, homestays and lodges do have better options for amenities, including private rooms with heating systems, hot showers, wifi connections, and charges for electronic devices, but they are a luxury and may cost more than the general ones. So choose the one that suits you the most. Let us know your preferences so we can make necessary arrangements during the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara trip.

Is this Himalayan hiking to Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhara completely altitude sickness-free?

Yes, the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara short trek in the Annapurna Himalayas of Nepal is considered easy in terms of difficulty level and is almost completely altitude sickness-free. The journey is 3,000m above sea level, though in the Himalayas, miles away from city areas, it does consist of some steep ascents and descents like on any other Himalayan adventure, as it does not go beyond 2,095m above sea level, the chances of falling sick due to altitude are low.

You also may not need hardcore physical training and mental preparation, but it is important to keep in mind that the better prepared you are, the easier the Himalayan journey becomes, including to the Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhara. But if you are someone with a permanent illness or weak hearts, lungs, and knees, it is good to consult with concerned authorities at first before booking the multi-day hikes to Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhara.

Do you need permits for the short Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara hike?

Yes, you do. As both the main destinations of the 10 days short treks in Nepal, Ghalengaon and Ghanapokhara, both fall under one of the country's conservation sites, the largest in area, in fact, it is mandatory that you obtain two respective permits dedicated to any sort of Himalayan treks, tours, and climbs inside the conservation area premises. They are the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) Card.

The permit fees collected go for the maintenance of various Annapurna trekking trails, the preservation of the diverse Himalayan ecosystem, and also to uplift the living standards of the locals, organising various self-employment and development programs. For first-timers, it can get hectic to arrange all by yourself; the best is to at least hire a guide who assists in all or purchase our comprehensive package, and we take care of all the logistics for you, including permits.

Why hire guides and porters to do the Ghalegaon Ghanapokhara trekking in Nepal?

In Nepal, after the banning of the free individual trekkers (FITs), you may choose to carry your backpack by yourself and not hire porters, but you must be accompanied by a local licensed mountain guide to go for any sort of Himalayan trip, including the short trek to Ghalegaon and Ghanapokhara in the Annapurna Himalayan trekking region of Nepal. Mountain guides and porters are the real heroes of the Himalayas.

It is they who have made it possible to reach and explore the majestic hills and Himalayas, which are still yet to see major changes due to rapid urbanisation, often full of overcrowding and pollutants. The main purpose of the guide is to lead; they navigate the challenging Himalayan terrains, keep you aware of both the pros and cons of the region, and, in case of emergencies, also provide immediate assistance. Hire one now at Adventure Himalayan Travels & Treks.

Client Reviews
  • Beautiful round trip

    rating

A great organized trip we were allowed to experience with 2 people. From Kathmandu along the Himalayan mountain range to the jungle of the south. Experienced, both culturally and geographically, with impressions that can hardly be put into words. A warm welcome at Kathmandu airport by Rana with driver to the hotel with initial briefing and information on the next day with beautiful flight in bright sunshine along the Himalayan mountains. We got the next few days a guide and driver with comfortable vehicle (compact SUV). Both were available to us constantly informative (guide) and with safe driving (driver) and have led us to the most interesting sights we would hardly have seen otherwise. We hardly had to worry about anything, (entrance etc.) everything was done reliably by the guide. Had we ever been alone and had not known further, no problem, Rana and guide were always available by phone or WhatsApp and could have helped to feel good security. At all stations of the trip we almost felt at home, as if good acquaintances were accompanying us. Farewell we were able to do a few small individual shopping wishes in Kathmandu with Rana samsame and also got some small parting gifts. Therefore full score for a recommended tour provider. Thank you Rana!
