It is known also as an area of Shaligram (Ammonite) which is taken by Hindus as holy stone holding the soul of Lord Vishnu.  Muktinath is one of 108 Vaishnava shrines which apart from religious significance hold immense potential for nature viewing. Against a backdrop of incredible starkness, you can gaze into the snow covered Annapurna Range to the south and Tibetan plateau towards the north. Ceremonies are held each year in Ram Nawami, Rishi Tarpani and Vijaya Dashami during which thousands of Hindus and Buddhist pilgrims pay homage to the Muktinath Holy Premises.
